How to download original Microsoft FreeCell for Windows 10

In the midst of criticism of Windows 10, there’s a place for the sacrilegious approach to classic card games. The gold classics which reached their peak on Windows 7 were removed and replaced by the subpar UWP apps. Including the fan-favorite FreeCell which was the important piece of gaming relief since Windows 95.

This injustice has a convenient fix and today we offer you the way to get your original Microsoft FreeCell on Windows 10.

Download and install original FreeCell for Windows 10

Microsoft FreeCell is one of those original and timeless Windows Solitaire card games. The FreeCell is another variation of solitaire concept, based on the card game which consists of a standard 52-card deck. The game was vastly popularized in Windows 95, and, to date, is one of the most widespread card-based games on all Windows iterations.

However, Microsoft with its dubious moves struck again. They removed the original FreeCell back on Windows 8 and the same approach took place on Windows 10. Somehow making it even worse in the process. They removed the Windows 7-like built-in FreeCell and incorporated Solitaire Collection as a UWP app. Due to adware/bloatware nature of this application, it’s safe to say that Windows 10 FreeCell haven’t met the expectations. Forcing users to use Microsoft Store apps exclusively isn’t exactly the brightest idea. Especially with the inclusion of 30-seconds-long video ads.

Windows 7 FreeCell in Windows 10? Here’s how to make it work

Now, luckily, there are various alternatives to pre-installed Microsoft Solitaire Collection and the revamped FreeCell which is the part of the pack. For starters, avoid the pre-installed game and even the UWP alternatives provided by the third-party developers. Most of them are bloated. Rather, some good guys from WinAero made the Windows 7 classic games available on Windows 8/10.

Here’s how to install and run Windows 7 classic games on Windows 10, including good old original FreeCell:

  1. Download the zip file of the Windows 7 games for Windows 10, here.
  2. Extract the installer with WinRar or 7-Zip.
  3. Run the installer as an administrator.
  4. Follow the instructions and choose what Windows 7 classics you want to install.
  5. After the installation ends, open Start.
  6. Locate Games and expand this section.
  7. Choose FreeCell and run it.

That’s it. Now you can enjoy the original FreeCell without needs to meddle with the Windows 10 iteration of the classic game. In case you have questions or suggestions regarding the FreeCell on Windows 10, feel free to tell us in the comments section below.

How to fix the ‘Unexpected error’ on ExpressVPN for Windows 10

The race for the best VPN solution is exceedingly close and the smallest detail can be the game changer. ExpressVPN is highly-regarded as the leader in the field, with a lot of things going for it.

However, there are some issues which made certain users doubt, and they concern a certain Unexpected error which occasionally occurs, especially while they stream media from the geo-restricted websites.

The issue isn’t exactly grave as it is rarely occurring on Windows 10 platform. However, just in case you encountered this error, we provided the steps below which should lead you to a fast resolution.

How to fix ExpressVPN unexpected error in Windows 10

  1. Try a different server
  2. Make sure your eligible for MediaStreamer DNS
  3. Reinstall ExpressVPN
  4. Check the connection
  5. Disable antivirus and firewall
  6. Send a ticket to ExpressVPN support

We highly recommend CyberGhost, a leading VPN provider which has not been reported with problems or errors. They also have a very responsive support team ready to help. Check out now its features and price (71% off) on the official webpage.

1: Try a different server

First things first. This error is rather low in occurrence on Windows platform. It mostly plagued iOS users since the version of ExpressVPN for Apple’s handheld devices had a bug. Nonetheless, even if it’s rare, it’s still an error and it’s worth addressing. The first and the easiest way to tackle this is to change the state, location, or server.

It’s quite common for the servers with the most traffic to go down. Also, sometimes the streaming service will impose limitations based on IP address so, by switching to another, you should be able to overcome that. Of course, if the complete VPN service isn’t completely blocked by the media provider.

Switching to an alternative server in the ExpressVPN client is rather simple and they come in numbers so you should have an easy time finding the one which fits the bill. As a side note, you can try to reduce the encryption level. This isn’t directly involved in the Unexpected error appearance, but it can help, nonetheless.

2: Make sure your eligible for MediaStreamer DNS

This Unexpected error mostly occurs when users try to access the streaming media which has a geo-restriction to it. Now, since plenty of them (Netflix is the best example) tend to block VPN services, ExpressVPN offers a special DNS setup which allows you to access, say, Netflix and stream HD videos. In order to speed up the buffering MediaStreamer DNS isn’t accompanied by any type of encryption. On the other hand, a lot of users discard this option as they don’t want to meddle with DNS configuration on their PCs.

You can also try out the Microsoft Store’s version of Netflix instead of the one run through the browser. Some users had more luck with that approach.

Since this isn’t the standard piece of the ExpressVPN suite, you’ll need to enroll in order to use it. If you’re lucky, this should enable you access to the streaming media of your choice without any issues whatsoever. Now, enrolling and configuring are rather simple, so make sure to follow the steps we provided below and you should be done in a matter of seconds:

  1. First, disable all customized proxy and DNS settings on your PC.
  2. Open ExpressVPN website and sign in with your credentials.
  3. Click on DNS settings.
  4. Enable Automatically register my IP address and click on Register my IP address.
  5. Close settings and open the ExpressVPN desktop client.

3: Reinstall ExpressVPN

The issues with the ExpressVPN client for Windows 10 are quite rare. However, as this is an application like so many others, things can go awry in a blink of an eye. Firstly, make sure that your copy of ExpressVPN is up to date. The update sequence is mostly automatically managed by the in-app update service, but you can check it out manually, as well. Just to make sure everything is as it should be.

In case the aforementioned error is persistent, we recommend a clean reinstallation of the desktop client. By doing so, you’ll re-establish the VPN service and re-integrate ExpressVPN in the Windows shell. If you’re uncertain how to perform a clean reinstallation, make sure to follow the steps we provided below:

  1. ControlControl Panel from the list of results.
  2. Uninstall a program under Programs.
  3. VPN solution and Uninstall it.
  4. UseIObit Uninstaller Pro(suggested) or any other third-party uninstaller tocleanall remaining files andregistry entriesthe VPN has made.
  5. Restart your PC.
  6. Download the latest version of the ExpressVPN and install it.

4: Check the connection

Whenever you troubleshoot anything even remotely dependent on connection, ensure that the connection itself is fully functional. Namely, even though this error is specific for ExpressVPN, the causes might vary. And if we want to be meticulous, there are some things to check before moving on to another step.

The procedure is fairly the same and it encompasses standard steps. We provided them below.

    • Restart your PC, router, and modem.
    • Measure your bandwidth speed and, more importantly, a latency of the data package without the ExpressVPN.
    • Use Wired instead of wireless connection.
    • Run Windows Connection Troubleshooter.
      1. Open Command Prompt by right-clicking on the Start.
      2. ipconfig /release
      3. ipconfig /renew
      4. After that, type in the following command and press Enter:
        • ipconfig /flushdns
    • Restart ExpressVPN service.
      1. In the Windows Search bar, type Services and open Services from the list of results.
      2. Locate ExpressVPN service, right-click on it and open Properties.
      3. Stop the service and start it again.
      4. Restart your PC and look for changes.
  • Update your router.
  • Reset router to factory settings.

5: Disable antivirus and firewall

These tweaks kind of fall in the connection category, but we decided to give them an extra attention as they require explanation. Namely, a third-party antivirus in its classical sense should not interfere with ExpressVPN.

However, many of them (as BitDefender which is true multifunctional security powerhouse) come in suits with the dedicated firewall for the sake of extra protection. And that’s something which gladly interferes with VPN solutions. So, make sure to either disable the antivirus feature or, even better, to whitelist the ExpressVPN and let it communicate freely.

Windows 10-wise, make sure to do the same with the built-in Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall can be also disabled but we won’t recommend it. Whitelisting is, here as well, a much better option. If you’re not sure how to let the ExpressVPN client communicate through the Windows Firewall boundaries, follow the steps below:

  1. AllowAllow an app through Windows Firewall.
  2. Click on the Change settingsbutton.
  3. Find ExpressVPN on the list andcheck the boxbeside it. Also, make sure that bothPublic and Privatenetworks are enabled.
  4. Confirm changes and try connecting through VPN again.

6: Send a ticket to ExpressVPN support

Finally, if none of the suggested solutions did you any good, the last thing you can do is contact the ExpressVPN support. In regards to customers support, ExpressVPN is one of the leaders in the market. So, you can hope for the proper and timely support and the swift resolution of the problem at hand. You can contact them through email or via the Live Chat option available on the official website.

With that, we can conclude it. We hope you’ll find the cure for the ache within the aforementioned steps. In case you are familiar with an alternative solution or have a question regarding the ones we presented, feel free to share them with us. That can be done in the comments section, just below.

There is insufficient disk space to complete operation

When you get an error message as you try to open a file and it says ‘there is insufficient disk space to complete operation‘, it could either be that the file or files are corrupted or device drivers.

This issue has been reported to happen when your computer is running certain antivirus software versions, or if you’re saving to an already full disk.

Sometimes the same error message pops up when you try to save a file, either in Microsoft Office Word or another program, and it says there’s not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation, and that you need to close extra windows and save your work.

Here are some known quick fixes to fix ‘there is insufficient disk space to complete operation’ error in Windows.

FIX: There is insufficient disk space to complete operation

  1. Reboot your computer
  2. Boot in Safe Mode
  3. Perform a clean boot
  4. Replace the template
  5. Check the File Allocation Table (FAT)
  6. Use Disk compression utility
  7. Run Disk Cleanup
  8. Clean %temp% folder
  9. Disable add-ins
  10. Repair Office from the Control Panel

1. Reboot your computer

One of the easiest ways to fix the insufficient disk space problem is to reboot your computer. You may have recently installed or upgraded a program or even your operating system, or installed updates. Whatever the case, reboot and see if the problem persists.

2. Boot in Safe Mode

Safe mode starts up your computer with limited files and drivers but Windows will still run. To know whether you’re on Safe mode, you’ll see the words at the corners of your screen.

If the issue of Shift key not working persists, check whether it occurs while your computer is in Safe mode.

Follow these steps to start your computer in Safe Mode:

  • Click on Start button
  • Select Settings – the Settings box will open up
  • Click Update & Security
  • Select Recovery from the left pane
  • Go to Advanced startup
  • Click Restart now
  • Select Troubleshoot from the choose an option screen, then click Advanced options
  • Go to Startup Settings and click Restart
  • Once your computer restarts, a list of options will come up.
  • Choose 4 or F4 to start your computer in Safe Mode

If the issue isn’t there while in Safe mode, then your default settings and basic drivers are not contributing to the issue.

  • RELATEDFix: ‘Error opening installation log file’ in Windows 10

Additionally, if booting in safe mode helped remove any enabled add-ins, delete the add-ins from the registry and see if it helps by doing the following:

  • Click on StartRun< type regedit (without quotes) and click Ok.
  • In the registry window browse to the location given below and delete the add-in key:

Ensure to back up the registry before deleting the keys from the registry. If you had installed a program and the error came after that, you have to reinstall the program on the computer after uninstalling it, because the installation could have been corrupt.

3. Perform a clean boot

This reduces conflicts related to software that can bring up the root causes of the insufficient disk space error as a result of apps and services that start and run in the background when Windows starts normally.

  • Log on as administrator, and type msconfig in the search box
  • Select System Configuration
  • Find Services tab
  • Select Hide all Microsoft services box
  • Click Disable all
  • Go to Startup tab
  • Click Open Task Manager
  • Close Task manager then click Ok
  • Reboot your computer

4. Replace the template

One of the causes of the error ‘there is insufficient disk space to complete the operation’ is a corrupted template. Here’s how to resolve it:

  1. Click on Start
  2. In the Search box type There should be a search option that you can check for ‘search hidden files’, make sure that is checked.  If it does not find it, try searching for *.dot.  It may be hard to find because it is a hidden file.  You may have to go into folder options and be sure show hidden files is checked.
  3. Whenever you find, rename it
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Open your program or file and it will create a new template

5. Check the File Allocation Table (FAT)

The File Allocation Table (FAT) uses a 32-bit integer to store the size of the files thus it is called FAT32, which then means that the maximum size it can hold is just under 4 GB. If your external hard disk is using FAT32 File System, then it isn’t a limitation of Windows that you could be facing in terms of the insufficient disk space error, it is in fact a limitation of the file system.

In this case, you could either split your files smaller than 4GB (typical limit of formats like FAT32), or reformat the external Hard disk to NTFS it to something that allows for files larger than 4GB.

Note: Reformatting the hard disk will wipe any data you have on the drive. Make sure you back up the data to another storage media.

  • RELATED FIX: You don’t have permission to open this file in Windows 10

6. Use Disk compression utility

This helps you add more hard disk space. If you are running antivirus software, try turning it off. If this corrects the issue, contact the manufacturer of your antivirus software for an update or workaround.

You may be able to recover some disk space by quitting programs that you do not need. After you quit the other programs, a few minutes may pass before Windows changes the size of the paging file.

7. Run Disk Cleanup

You can free disk space by deleting files that you do not need, by following these steps:

  • Click Start, and select All Apps
  • Go to Accessories
  • Click System Tools
  • Click Disk Cleanup
  • In the Select Drive dialog box, click to select the drive that you want to clean up for example, C:, and then click OK.
  • On the Disk Cleanup tab, click to select each of the options for which you want to remove files.
  • Click OK.

You may be able to save your file to a flash drive or network drive or any storage that has free disk space.

8. Clean %temp% folder

After your reboot, clean up the %temp% folder by doing the following:

  • Right click Start and select Run
  • Type %temp% and press enter, this opens File Explorer in the TEMP folder
  • Select all files by pressing CTRL+A
  • Press DELETE
  • For any files in use, just SKIPthem

9. Disable add-ins

  • Right click Start and select Run
  • Type winword /safe
  • If the program successfully click on the File menu
  • Select Options
  • Select Add-ins
  • Click on the ‘Go’ button besides the ‘Manage: Com-in Add’ option
  • Check if there are any add-ins enabled, if yes then clear the checkbox to disable them
  • Restart the program and check if you are able to launch it successfully without error.

10. Repair Office from the Control Panel

The steps to access the repair tool vary depending on your operating system.

Choose your operating system then do the following:

  • Right-click Start and select Apps and Features on the pop-up menu.
  • Select the Microsoft Office product you want to repair, and select Modify.

Note: This will repair the entire Office suite even if it’s just one application you want to repair such as Word or Excel. If you have a standalone app installed, then search for that application by name.

Depending if your copy of Office is Click-to-run or MSI-based install, do the following.

  • Click-to-run the program
  • Go to How would you like to repair your Office Programs
  • Select Online Repairto make sure everything gets fixed
  • Select Repair (The faster Quick Repairoption is also available, but it only detects and then replaces corrupted files.)

If yours is MSI-based, go to Change your installation, select Repair and then click Continue. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

Xbox Game DVR doesn’t record games in Windows 10

Game DVR recording is a great addition for all gamers in Windows 10. But what if this feature doesn’t work, and you’re unable to record your games? Well we have a couple of advice for you, if that happens.

  • Sorry this PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements for recording clips – This is one of the most common error codes you’ll get if you’re unable to run the Game DVR feature in Windows 10.
  • Windows game bar nothing to record – Another common error code that can appear.
  • Can’t record right now Windows 10 – Another common error code that can appear.
  • Windows 10 game bar not working – In case you can’t even pull the game bar feature in Windows 10, we have a separate article on the problem, so make sure to check it out.

What to do if Game DVR doesn’t work in Windows 10

Table of contents:

  1. Make sure your computer is compatible with Game DVR
  2. Restart Game DVR Task
  3. Reset Windows Store
  4. Update the game
  5. Delete temporary files

Fix: Game DVR not opening in Windows 10

Solution 1 – Make sure your computer is compatible with Game DVR

Although you’re available to run some other screen-recording software, broadcasters and some popular games, like Skyrim, you maybe won’t be able to run Game DVR feature. Because this feature is actually more demanding than it seems, and if you’re rocking an older hardware, you’ll probably be able only to take screenshots from your favorite game, but not to record any clips.

To make sure you posses hardware strong enough to record clips with Game DVR, open your Xbox app, go to Settings, Game DVR, and if you see the message This PC can’t record clips, you don’t have enough hardware capacity for that. Otherwise, just make sure Background recording is set to On, and everything should work just fine.

The most important component for running Game DVR is graphics card, so if you don’t have enough powerful graphics card, you won’t be able to use all Game DVR features. To save you from further headaches, here is the list of graphics cards needed for running Game DVR feature on Windows 10:

  • AMD: AMD Radeon HD 7000 series, HD 7000M series, HD 8000 series, HD 8000M series, R9 series, and R7 series.
  • NVIDIA: GeForce 600 series or later, GeForce 800M series or later, Quadro Kxxx series or later.
  • Intel: Intel HD graphics 4000 or later, Intel Iris Graphics 5100 or later.

Solution 2 – Restart Game DVR Task

If you’re sure that your graphics card is compatible with Game DVR, but you’re still unable to record your games, there’s a simple solution. Sometimes your recording doesn’t end correctly, and that prevents you from recording any new clips. To change that, you just need to restart Game DVR task, and you should be able to record again. If you’re not sure how to do that, follow these instructions:

  1. Right-click on the taskbar and go to Task Manager
  2. Find Broadcast DVR Server (bcastdvr.exe), click on it and go to End task
  3. Now, press Windows button + G again, and you should be able to record clips you want

I also have to mention that some games don’t recognize when Windows button is pressed, so if you notice that you can record some games, but you can’t record others, go to Xbox app, Settings, Game DVR, and set different shortcuts for recording.

Solution 3 – Reset Windows Store

The next thing we’re going to try is resetting the Windows Store. It’s a very easy thing to do, but if you’re not sure how, just follow these instuctions:

  1. Go to Search, type wsreset, and open the WSReset.exe command.
  2. Finish the process and restart your computer.

Solution 4 – Update the game

There’s a slight chance your game isn’t compatible with the Game DVR feature. We’re mainly talking about older games here, because new titles are all compatible with this feature. In case your game isn’t compatible with the Game DVR feature, you can either leave it be, or look for a new varsio of the game that actually supports this featue.

So, just go and update your game, if the update includes the DVR support, you’re good to go. If you still can’t access the game bar, maybe your game is simply too old for it.

Solution 5 – Delete temporary files

Some users also reported that deleting the temporary files also resolved the issues with the Game DVR, and that’s the next thing we’re going to try:

  1. Open Settings app and go to System.
  2. Go to Storage and choose This PC.
  3. Scroll down and locate Temporary files.
  4. Click Temporary files and click on Delete temporary files. This process can take a while, so wait until it’s completed.
  5. After you’ve successfully removed Temporary files, restart your computer.

That’s about it, we ceartainly hope at least one of these solutions helped you resolve the problem with recording games using the Game DVR feature in Windows 10. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, just let us know in the comments below.

Webcam Problems in Windows 10, 8.1 and 7

It is very likely that your webcam won’t work after the upgrade to Windows 10 Technical Preview. Luckily, this issue is minor and it could be solved in few simple steps, buy installing the right driver.

Windows 10 Technical Preview is present on testers’ computers for a while and users are constantly providing feedback in order to help Microsoft to make as good and stable operating system as possible. Of course, since Windows 10 is still in it’s developing and testing phase we can’t expect it to behave like fully-finished operating system. Windows 10 still lacks a lot of drivers and features that are necessary for everyday use of the computer.

Many users use their webcam frequently, but sometimes certain issues with the webcam can appear. Speaking of webcam problems, users reported the following issues:

  • We can’t find your camera Windows 10 – This is a relatively common problem with Windows 10. If Windows can’t find your camera, try reconnecting it or reinstalling its drivers.
  • Webcam not in Device Manager – If your webcam isn’t listed in Device Manager, it’s possible that it’s disabled. Many laptops support a keyboard shortcut that allows you to disable your webcam, so be sure to look for it.
  • Integrated webcam not working – This is another problem that many users have with their webcam. If the webcam isn’t working, be sure to update your drivers to the latest version and check if that helps.
  • Webcam upside down – Several users reported that their webcam is upside down. This is a minor problem, and we covered a similar issue in our Skype camera is upside down article, so be sure to check it out.
  • Webcam used by another application – Sometimes you might get this message on your PC. If you’re having this problem, be sure to disable all startup applications and check if that helps.
  • Webcam not working, detected, recognized, turning on, showing up – There are various webcam problems that can occur, but you should be able to solve most of them by using one of our solutions.

Solution 1 – Check your antivirus settings

If you’re having webcam problems on Windows 10, the issue might be caused by your antivirus software. Many antivirus tools tend to block your webcam in order to prevent hackers from spying on you. Webcam blocking is a useful feature, however, it can cause issues with your webcam.

To fix this problem, it’s advised that you check your antivirus configuration and disable webcam protection feature. If that doesn’t help or if you can’t find this setting, you can try disabling your antivirus completely.

Sometimes in order to fix this problem, you need to remove your antivirus software completely. Since it’s not safe to use a PC without an antivirus, you should consider switching to a different antivirus solution. If you’re looking for a new security software, you might want to try BullGuard or Bitdefender. Both applications offer great features, so be sure to consider them.

Solution 2 – Make sure that apps are allowed to use your webcam

Webcam problems can occur if applications aren’t allowed to use your webcam. Windows 10 added a privacy feature that allows you to choose which applications can access your webcam. To fix this problem, you need to check your privacy settings by doing the following:

  1. Open the Settings app. You can do that quickly by pressing Windows Key + I shortcut.
  2. When Settings app opens, go to Privacy section.
  3. In the left pane, choose Camera. Now make sure that Let apps use my camera hardware option is checked. If the problem appears only with a specific app, check the Choose apps that can use your camera list and make sure that the camera is enabled for that app.

After changing this setting, your apps should be able to access your webcam without any problems.

Solution 3 – Update your drivers

Sometimes webcam problems can be caused by outdated or missing drivers. If you’re having this problem, we advise you to try updating your drivers. You can do that in several different ways. The easiest method is to use the automatic update. To do that, follow these steps:

  2. When Device Manager opens, locate your webcam on the list and choose Update driver.
  3. Now choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Windows will now automatically search and download the suitable driver for your PC. In some cases, you might have to install the driver manually.

Windows 10 comes with a set of default drivers and you can install them by doing the following:

  1. Repeat Step 1 and 2 from above.
  2. Now choose Browse my computer for driver software.
  3. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  4. Select the brand of your webcam and model and follow the instructions on the screen to install the driver.

If that doesn’t work, you might want to try rolling back to the older driver. This is rather simple and you can do it by following these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager, locate your webcam and double click it.
  2. When the Properties window opens, navigate to the Driver tab. Now choose Roll Back Driver option.

If this option isn’t available, you won’t be able to rollback to the older driver.

Although these methods are simple to use, the best way to update your webcam driver is to download the driver for it manually. Simply visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver for your model.

Update drivers automatically (third-party tool suggested)

Downloading drivers manually can put your system to an unnecessary risk: getting the wrong driver installed. This may lead to serious malfunctions. The safer and easier way to update drivers on a Windows computer is by using an automatic tool such as TweakBit Driver Updater.

Driver Updater automatically identifies each device on your computer and matches it with the latest driver versions from an extensive online database. Drivers can then be updated in batches or one at a time, without requiring the user to make any complex decisions in the process. Here is how it works:

    1. Download and install TweakBit Driver Updater
    2. Once installed, the program will start scanning your PC for outdated drivers automatically. Driver Updater will check your installed driver versions against its cloud database of the latest versions and recommend proper updates. All you need to do is wait for the scan to complete.
    1. Upon scan completion, you get a report on all problem drivers found on your PC. Review the list and see if you want to update each driver individually or all at once. To update one driver at a time, click the ‘Update driver’ link next to the driver name. Or simply click the ‘Update all’ button at the bottom to automatically install all recommended updates.

Note: Some drivers need to be installed in multiple steps so you will have to hit the ‘Update’ button several times until all of its components are installed.

Disclaimer: some features of this tool are not free.

Solution 4 – Check if your webcam is enabled

Many laptops allow you to enable or disable your webcam by using a keyboard shortcut. To check if your laptop supports this feature, look for a key that has a webcam picture on it. To disable or enable your webcam, simply press Fn key and that key together.

On some laptops that keyboard shortcut is Fn + F6, but it might be different on your laptop. To see if your laptop supports this feature and how to properly enable or disable your webcam, be sure to check your laptop’s instruction manual.

Solution 5 – Disable all USB hubs

According to users, sometimes your USB hub device can cause webcam problems to appear. However, you can easily fix this problem by disabling all USB hubs. This is rather simple and you can do it by following these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
  2. Now locate USB Root Hub, right click it and choose Disable from the menu.

  5. After disabling all USB hubs, restart your PC.
  6. Once your PC restarts, go back to Device Manager and enable all USB hubs.

After doing that, your webcam should start working again.

Solution 6 – Install the default driver

Another way to fix this problem is to install the default driver. This is rather simple and you can do it by following these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Locate your webcam on the list, right click it and choose Uninstall device.
  3. When the confirmation dialog appears, check Delete the driver software for this device if available. Now click the Uninstall button.
  4. After uninstalling the driver, click Scan for hardware changes icon.
  5. Windows will now install the default driver. If for some reason the default driver isn’t installed, restart your PC and check if that solves the issue.

After installing the default driver, the problem should be resolved and your webcam will start working again.

Solution 7 – Rename SoftwareDistribution and catroot2 directories

According to users, you can fix webcam problems simply by renaming SoftwareDistribtion and catroot2 directories. This is relatively simple and you can do it by running several commands:

  1. Start Command Prompt as administrator. You can do that by pressing Windows Key + X and choosing Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu. If Command Prompt isn’t available, you can also use PowerShell (Admin).
  2. When Command Prompt starts, enter the following commands:
    • net stop wuauserv
    • net stop cryptSvc
    • net stop bits
    • net stop msiserver
    • ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 catroot2.old
    • net start wuauserv

SOLVED: Windows 10 Quick Access error

Quick Access is a new feature that replaced what was previously known as Favorites, and in Windows 10, this feature can be found in the File Explorer navigation pane.

The good thing about this feature is you can navigate faster to locations you frequent the most, as well as those you recently visited. In fact, by default, File Explorer launches into Quick Access, though you can change this to suit your preferences.

This feature’s convenient way of accessing folders helps a lot especially when some folders or files cannot be easily located or you cannot remember how you saved the file as.

But there are times when Quick Access may not work, either it gets stuck or you cannot remove or unpin it, and other times it loses track of target folder(s), while still pointing to the old location.

If you encounter a Windows 10 Quick Access error, try the solutions below to resolve it.

FIX: Windows 10 Quick Access error

  1. Preliminary troubleshooting
  2. Disable Quick Access and then reset the data
  3. Perform a system reset for your PC
  4. Customize the folder options

1. Preliminary troubleshooting

The first thing to do is restart your computer, but if that still doesn’t help, try running the Windows built-in troubleshooter on your computer, which can automatically fix some common problems like the Windows 10 Quick Access error, and others like networking, hardware and devices, and program compatibility.

Here’s how to run the troubleshooter:

  • Click Start and select Control Panel
  • Type Troubleshooting in the search box of the Control Panel, and select Troubleshooting
  • Go to System and Security
  • Click System Maintenance
  • Click Next

You can also perform an SFC scan by using Command Prompt as Administrator, then check whether there are any corrupt files that may be causing the problem.

  • Right click Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Type the commands below:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

  • Close the window once you’re done

If this doesn’t help, try the next solution.

2. Disable Quick Access and then reset the data

In order to disable Quick Access, you can disable showing of recent and frequently used files and/or folders. If you want to remove the frequent or recent files/folders, open File Explorer, click View tab, click Options and then click Change folder and search options to open the Folder Options.

Next, uncheck the Show recently used files in Quick Access box, and the Show frequently used folders in Quick Access boxes, under Privacy, then click Apply and exit. This removes the two sections from Quick Access in File Explorer.

The Windows 10 Quick Access error may come up due to corruption among data which your system stores for frequent folders record. So you need to reset the data to resolve the issue, after disable Quick Access by doing the following:

  • Right click Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Type the following command:

del /F /Q %APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations*

  • Press enter
  • Close Command Promptand reboot your system

If this doesn’t help, try the next solution.

3. Perform a system reset for your PC

Performing a reset allows you to choose which files you want to keep, or remove, and then reinstalls Windows.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Click Start
  • Click Settings
  • Click Update & Security
  • Click Recovery on the left pane
  • Click Reset this PC
  • Click Get started and choose an option either Keep my files, Remove everything, or Restore factory settings

Note: all your personal files will be deleted and settings reset. Any apps you installed will be removed, and only pre-installed apps that came with your PC will be reinstalled.

If this doesn’t help, try the next solution.

4. Customize the folder options

Sometimes, folder locations on remote file system files may find their way into the Quick Access cache, thus the remote systems may become inaccessible so File Explorer waits for them to time out before rendering.

One way to deal with this is to delete them from the Quick Access panel but you can also customize the folder by doing the following:

  • Open File Explorer
  • Right click Downloads folder and select Properties
  • Click Customize tab

  • Choose Optimize this Folder for
  • General Items
  • Click Also apply this setting to subfolders
  • Click OK. Do the same for your Documents folder.

This will let File Explorer handle files without trying to generate snapshot images for them.

It might be the case that anti-virus software is blocking Google Drive’s connection. As such, it’s worth checking your anti-virus application settings. As the settings vary greatly for each utility, no specific instructions can be given for this. However, you should search for some firewall options in the anti-virus software that might enable you to unblock programs.

Alternatively, you could uninstall your anti-virus utilities via Programs and Features. If you can then connect to Google Drive, it will be clear enough that the anti-virus software was blocking the connection in some way. According to users, antivirus tools such as McAfee and Avast can lead to this issue, so be sure to remove them.

If removing your antivirus software solves the issue, you need to switch to a different antivirus software. There are many great antivirus tools available, but if you want the best protection, you should consider Bitdefender.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s a quick workaround that can fix this problem for ESET users. To fix the problem, simply open ESET settings and activate HIPS (Host intrusion prevention system). After doing that, Google Drive should start working again.

Solution 3 – Remove the e-Rewards Notify Software

Have you installed the e-Rewards Notify software? If so, you should remove that software from Windows. This program is known to disconnect Google Drive as it automatically configures your network to use a proxy. Google Drive doesn’t work with an authenticated proxy.

Note that e-Rewards also creates three new Windows services which you can switch off by entering ‘services’ into the Cortana search box and clicking Services. Search for the e-Rewards services in the window shown directly below, right-click the services and select Properties and then press the Stop buttons.

If a certain software is interfering with Google Drive, the best way to fix the problem is to remove it. There are many ways to do that, but the best one is to use an uninstaller software. In case you’re not familiar, uninstaller software is a special application designed to remove other programs from your PC.

In addition to removing the desired applications, this tool will also remove all files and registry entries associated with it. This will ensure that the problematic application is completely removed and prevent any leftover files from interfering with your PC. If you’re looking for a good uninstaller application, the best one is Revo Uninstaller, so be sure to try it.

  4. Select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
  5. Now choose Add a user without a Microsoft account.
  6. Enter the desired user name and password and click Next.

After creating a new account, you need to change it to the administrative account. To do that, just follow these steps:

  1. In Settings app, go to Accounts > Family & other people. Now locate the new account in Other people section. Select the account and click Change account type.
  2. Change Account type to Administrator and click OK to save changes.

After doing that, switch to the new account and check if the problem with Google Drive still persists. Keep in mind that you might have to install Google Drive again on the new account.

Solution 6 – Run Windows Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

The Program Compatibility Troubleshooter is one of the troubleshooters included in Windows. This can come in handy for fixing software that isn’t working, as is the case with Google Drive’s connection error. So it might help fix Google Drive, and this is how you can run the troubleshooter.

  1. Open Control Panel and navigate to Troubleshooting.
  2. Now you can click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows to open the window directly below.
  3. Click Advanced and select the Run as administrator check box.
  4. Now press the Next button to select a program to fix. Then you can select Google Drive from a list of programs.
  5. Click Next again to start the scanning. The troubleshooter might then show you a list of Google Drive issues it can fix for you.

Solution 7 – Change proxy settings

According to users, sometimes proxy settings can interfere with Google Drive and cause Unable to connect message to appear. Apparently, Google Drive has some issues with proxy settings, and if you have issues with Google Drive, be sure to turn off Automatically detect proxy settings.

After turning off this option, enable Direct connect and your problem should be completely resolved.

Solution 8 – Reinstall Google Drive app

If you’re having problems with Google Drive, you might want to consider reinstallation. Sometimes your installation can get corrupted and that can cause this and other Google Drive problems to occur. In case your installation is corrupted, you can fix the issue simply by removing Google Drive from your PC.

To ensure that Google Drive is completely removed, we advise you to use one of the uninstaller applications we mentioned in one of our previous solutions. Now you just have to install Google Drive again and your issue should be resolved.

Keep in mind that you need to install the latest version of Google Drive if you want to avoid this and similar issues in the future.

Those are some probable fixes for Google Drive connection errors, so feel free to try them all and let us know if they work for you.
